Inter Feral Arts #8 – Concerts, lectures, workshops & PhD seminars

Inter Feral Arts is a platform for artistic excellence and experimental research in music. During October, November and December 2023, IAC and the Malmö Academy of Music will hold the next Inter Feral Arts Festival. The festival will include concerts, lectures & workshops, one 50% and two 75% PhD seminar. The events will take place at IAC and the Malmö Academy of Music.

Inter Feral Arts is directed by Professor of Artistic Research in Music Michael Edward Edgerton and PhD candidate Fernando Garnero, both at Malmö Academy of Music, and organised through Malmö Academy of Music and Inter Arts Center. Free admission.

Felicita Brusoni: A Voice Beyond the Edge. 50% PhD Candidate Lecture-Recital. The core is reasoning about a broader concept: what is at stake for a contemporary music singer as an interpreter today?

The 50% PhD seminar of Felicita Brusoni’s doctoral project “A Voice Beyond the Edge”. It will be a discussion between Juliet Fraser (soprano specializing in contemporary music) and Brusoni. Starting from the overarching research question, “what do extended vocal techniques represent today?”, Brusoni will discuss (and dismantle) the term “extended” and recontextualize vocal behaviors typically referred to with that term from a broader and more ecologic perspective.

1–10 December: Exhibition: Plastic Extensions.
1 December, at 14:00: Plastic Extension of Music 75% PhD seminar
Discussion between PhD candidate Bertrand Chavarría-Aldrete and Professor Max Liljefors about “Plastic Extension of Music” that emerged from the need to replace, give artistic significance, and widen the practice of the music performer.

75% PhD defense concert: Ensemble Lucilin / Fernando Garnero
The ensemble for contemporary music United Instruments of Lucilin, the only Luxembourgish chamber music ensemble specialised in contemporary music, will perform music by the composers Fernando Garnero, Sarah Nemtsov, Igor Silva and Michael Edgerton.
