Kent Olofsson: ZONA – music at the threshold / INTONAL 2024
ZONA – music at the threshold (2021–24)
The work is a suite of electroacoustic music that was composed during the project “Zonen”, a large-scale film and performing arts project in collaboration with actor, director and writer Nina Jeppsson.
“Zonen” took its starting point in the movie Stalker by Andreij Tarkovsky from 1978, where three men enter the forbidden zone, a hazardous wasteland, to find the magic room where it is said that your innermost desires will come true. In our project the poetic imagery of Tarkovsky and the three mens journey through the zone become a method and inspiration, an artistic and spritual journey on the threshold of image and sound, spirit and matter, on faith, art and life.
Kent Olofsson (1962) is a composer with an extensive artistic output of over 200 works that span a broad field of genres, ensemble types and contexts including music for orchestra, chamber music, electroacoustic music, music theatre, rock music, and works for dance performances and installations. The last decade his artistic work and research has been particularly focused on exploring musical composition in experimental theatre performances, where particularly his work with Teatr Weimar and with artist Nina Jeppsson has been widely acclaimed. Since 2021 he is professor of performing arts at Stockholm University of the Arts.
