Fabio Monni plays Ryoji Ikeda / INTONAL 2024
Ryoki Ikeda – 1966
5 Zones (1994-95)
Luxus (1993)
5 Zones and Luxus are both tracks from Ryoji Ikeda’s groundbreaking album “1000 Fragments,” which was released in 1995. Extended reverberating clusters of sound are interspersed with Ikeda’s distinctive rhythmic patterns reminiscent of Morse code-like impulses. Ikeda employs a strategic approach to positioning sound objects, deliberately placing them either in close proximity or at a distance from the listener. This approach not only cultivates immersive auditory experiences but also conjures the atmosphere of vast cathedrals or intimate studio spaces, as computer-generated sounds and recorded samples seamlessly intertwine.
5 zones begins with the evocative imagery of an expansive industrial dome and transitions into a structured rhythmic pattern.
Luxus envelops listeners again in a dome of grand resonances, where echoes of church organ, strings, and choirs roam freely, infusing the space with vitality and life.
Fabio Monni
Multimedia artist based in Malmö, Sweden. Fabio loves the discreet inclusion of electronic sounds on instrumental performance as well as the use of sounding objects. The space of the performance and the possibilities to spatialise the sonic sources into it, is something he always had a soft spot for. Clearly Fabio used the space in many artistic projects. His musician activity is more than often paralleled with professional graphic illustrations and his daily job as church musician in Lund.
